There are a lot of people offering landscaping and garden services in Dubai, and the quality ranges from excellent to genuinely awful. Choosing the wrong one can leave you with a garden that dies within a season, a pergola that corrodes, or an irrigation system that floods your beds. A little diligence up front saves a lot of money and heartache. Here is what to check.
1. Are they licensed and established?
A proper landscaping company should hold a valid UAE trade licence for the work it does. Ask how long they have operated in Dubai specifically — local experience matters enormously here because the climate, soil and water are unlike anywhere else. A company that has kept gardens alive through Dubai summers for years knows things a newcomer does not.
2. Can they show you real, local work?
Ask to see photos of actual projects they have completed in Dubai — ideally in communities like yours — not generic stock images. Better still, ask whether you can see a garden they maintain. Real, established gardens that still look good after a year or two are the proof that counts.
3. Do they understand the climate, or just plants?
This is the real test. A good Dubai landscaper will talk to you about soil improvement, irrigation, plant selection for the heat and salt, and shade — not just what looks pretty on day one. If they are not asking how the space is used, which way it faces, and how it will be watered, walk away.
4. Is the quote clear and itemised?
A trustworthy quote spells out what is included: design, materials, plants, irrigation, labour, and crucially who maintains it afterwards. Vague one-line prices hide nasty surprises. And be wary of the cheapest bid — it usually means poor soil prep, cheap plants that die, or corners cut on drainage and cabling that cost you far more to fix later.
5. Do they offer aftercare?
A garden is not a one-off purchase — it is a living thing that needs ongoing care, especially through its first summer. The best companies offer maintenance contracts and stand behind their planting. A firm that installs and vanishes has no incentive to make sure things survive.
Red flags to walk away from
- No trade licence, or reluctance to show one.
- No local project photos — only stock images.
- A price that is dramatically lower than everyone else’s.
- Full payment demanded up front.
- No mention of soil, irrigation or aftercare — only the “pretty” part.
- No fixed written quote.
